Editorial standards
These standards describe how DermatologyNews researches, writes, reviews, publishes, and corrects articles. They apply to every piece published on this site.
Sourcing
- Every clinical claim is sourced to a peer-reviewed paper, a professional society guideline (for example AAD, ASLMS, ISDS, Cochrane), or an FDA-cleared device label.
- Statistics and outcome rates cite a specific study or systematic review. Manufacturer marketing material is not used as a primary source.
- When evidence is limited, evolving, or contested, the article says so and avoids definitive language.
Medical review
- Every article is reviewed by a board-certified dermatologist before publication for clinical accuracy, indication and contraindication balance, and citation integrity.
- The reviewer's name, credentials, and review date are visible on every article and in structured data.
- Articles undergo periodic re-review. The most recent review date is shown on the article and is the canonical "last reviewed" date.
What we will not do
- We do not run sponsored articles, paid placements, or affiliate commerce content as editorial.
- We do not publish before-and-after patient photographs.
- We do not use sensationalist language such as "world-class", "#1", "the best", "miracle", or "guaranteed".
- We do not promote individual clinics. When a clinic is referenced as a clinical practice example, the reference is editorial, the affiliation is disclosed, and at least one other practice or guideline is cited in the same context.
- We do not publish unverified efficacy claims about stem cell, exosome, or similar therapies.
AI assistance disclosure
Editorial drafts may be assisted by large language model tools. All AI-assisted drafts are fact-checked against the cited literature by a human editor and reviewed by a board-certified dermatologist before publication. Citation links are verified manually. We do not publish unedited AI output.
Corrections
When a material error is reported or identified, we update the article and record the change in a visible note at the top of the article. The article's last-reviewed date is updated and structured data reflects the change. Minor copy edits that do not change clinical substance may be made silently.
Conflicts of interest
Editors and medical reviewers disclose financial or professional relationships that could reasonably influence editorial judgment. Affiliations of medical reviewers and editorial team members are listed on the medical review board page and the about page.
